Things to do

The Old Tredegar is ideally placed as your home from home on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. With a wide range of outdoor activities within easy reach; here are just a few ideas:

Motorcyclists

Off Road Skills, the BMW-powered training school is just minutes away. Offering off-road motorcycle training for everyone from beginners to expert riders, Off Road Skills has developed its structured and carefully planned curriculum over 12 years. Supported by BMW, the schools are delivered on BMW GS adventure bikes, giving people a chance to see what these incredible machines can do off road. You will need a motorcycle license, but no prior off-road experience is required.

The Brecon Beacons are a road-riding paradise as well. With plenty of biker friendly haunts in Llandovery, Brecon, Builth Wells and the Sunday gathering at the Abergavenny bus station you will be spoiled for choice of great roads. Whatever you do, don’t miss the Black Mountain Road which is right on our doorstep. It is a favourite with locals as well as journalists alike and you will recognise many of its twists and turns from photos in your favourite bike mags.

Cyclists

The Old Tredegar is just a mile and a half from National Cycle Route 43. On the edge of the Brecon Beacons it is also in easy reach of the many cycle tracks and trails through the park and surrounding areas. The local roads feature repeatedly on the Dragon Ride each year.

Under thirty minutes drive away is the famous Afan Forest Park, home to five world class trails, the ‘Penhydd’, ‘Y Wâl’, ‘Skyline’, ‘White’s Level’ and ‘‘, boasting over 100 km of singletrack trails. Afan Forest Park was the only UK trail destination to feature in the ‘What Mountain Bike Magazine’ as one of the ten best places to ride “before you die”. In 2008 it was also voted one of the top ten public forests in the UK by the Sunday Telegraph. Only slightly further afield is Bike Park Wales, the UK’s top mountain bike park, with uplift shuttle and the longest Blue grade descent in Britain.
